Equine Veterinary and Podiatry Services

At Oakhurst, we understand the importance of proper equine podiatry care for your horse. We offer a comprehensive range of services to ensure your horse's hooves are balanced, pain-free, and in optimal condition. Our goal is to provide the most advanced and up-to-date care using state-of-the-art technology and a team approach.

Our equine podiatry services include:

  • Evaluations of Imbalance Issues: We conduct thorough assessments to identify and address any balance issues affecting your horse's hooves. By analyzing the gait and structure of the hooves, we can develop a customized treatment plan.
  • Navicular Disease Management: Navicular disease can be a challenging condition, but our experienced team is equipped to provide effective management strategies to alleviate pain and improve your horse's comfort and mobility.
  • Laminitis Treatment: Laminitis is a serious condition that requires prompt and specialized care. We have the expertise to diagnose and treat laminitis, aiming to minimize damage and promote healing.
  • Abscess and P3 Osteomyelitis Treatment: We possess expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of hoof abscesses and P3 osteomyelitis, utilizing advanced techniques like digital radiography and minor surgical procedures to address abscesses, remove lesions on P3, and collaborating with the farrier to facilitate the application of therapeutic shoes or hospital plates, promoting effective recovery.
  • Canker Management: Canker is a rare but problematic condition affecting the hoof. Our team can develop a comprehensive plan to address canker, aiming to eliminate the infection and promote healing.
  • Therapeutic Shoeing: We work closely with a certified farrier who visits our facility twice a month. Our team collaborates with the farrier to provide therapeutic shoeing services tailored to your horse's specific needs.

We also value collaboration and encourage the involvement of your existing farrier. We can work together with your farrier to develop a shoeing or trimming plan that addresses any hoof-related issues your horse may have.

For your convenience, you have the option to schedule your horse for a podiatry workup at Oakhurst, or we can arrange to travel to your barn if it falls within our practice radius.

Furthermore, we believe in the power of knowledge-sharing and offer a unique opportunity for collaboration through our Farrier Forum. Led by Dr. Sylvia Ouellette, this forum brings together local farriers and veterinarians to discuss and explore new and challenging cases. If your farrier nominates your horse, you may have the chance to participate and gain valuable insights into treatment and shoeing options.
